Elvis Wins In Indiana

The elections are over, and the returns keep pouring in.

Former Jasonville Mayor Bruce Borders swept into Indiana House District 45 by a wide margin... He's also well known as an entertainer -- an Elvis impersonator -- something Borders said he was able to overcome in defeating incumbent Democrat Rep. Alan Chowning. Borders won the 2004 contest 13,878 to Chowning's 10,643.

"The euphoria is here ... I'm glad to have won, but I take the responsibility very seriously," Borders said. His emphasis on moral issues, particularly his support of a state constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman, helped carry him to victory.

Borders added that he was targeted by negative ads, too, including one that ridiculed his Elvis impersonations. "There is a lot of that on both sides of the aisle that goes on," he said.
