24HR Writing Contest

Right now I am in the middle of a writing contest in which we have 24 hours to write a short story based on a theme we were given at noon today. Only 200 applicants can enter. I made the cut. It is part of the Wisconsin Book Festival being held next weekend here in Madison. I have a first draft completed, and I'm taking a break from it. First prize is $500. Wish me luck.

UPDATE: It's done, the story is submitted. I stopped last night at 1:30 AM and went to sleep. The dogs woke me at 7:00. I reread my story probably 2 dozens times, tweaked here and there, careful not to muddy any of the theme that became prominent. Satisfied I sent it on. Will it win? I don't know. It was the first story that I turned over control and let the characters guide me to the end. I was actually surprised at the ending. Now it's over but for the waiting. On to the next story.
